A resonance luminescence line and its [0 phonon side bands due to n=2 freeexcitons in Kl are studied. Main results of measurements; (1) the resonanceluminescence line is located at 6.186 eV which corresponds closely to the peakr>osition of the zero rhonon absorr>lion line due to n=2 excitons, (2) the shareof the line is symmetric Lorentzian with 1.6 meV width, (3) the quantum yield isl x 10 ', (4) the height of the potential barrier between the n=2 free excitonstate and self-trapped exciton states is 3.0 men, (5) the self-trapping probabilityby a tunnel process through the potential barrier is 2 X 10" sec -' and (6) thescattering probability from the n=2 free exciton state to the n=1 free excitonstate is 2x10"sec-'. Furthermore, it is concluded that so called a(4.l2eV)luminescence and z(3.31 eV) luminescence are emitted from the self-trappedexciton states due to the n=2 exciton state.
