Self Trapping of Excitons in Monomeric Perylene Crystals

Based on the observation of free exciton luminescence at room temperature, selftrapping of excitons is recognized in /7-perylene crystals which have a monomericstructure. Temperature dependence of the luminescence spectra suggests theexistence of two sorts of self trapped states. The result obtained are consistent withthose anticipated by the analysis of the Urbach rule in /?-perylene.
