Absorption and luminescence spectra in pyrene have been investigated. Ab-sorption spectra below the phase transition point at 120 K exhibit structureswhich are not observed in the room temperature spectra. Below the phase transi-tion temperature another dimeric phase (a') which differs from that in the roomtemperature phase (a) is suggested to appear. This suggestion is consistent withinformation reported from the electron diffraction patterns. The relationshipbetween the specimen cooling method and the occurrence of the phase transitionis briefly discussed.
