Thermomodulation Study of 0-0 Exciton Absorption Bands in Anthracene

Thermoreflectance spectra in the lowest singlet-singlet transition region ofanthracene have been measured at liquid nitrogen temperature. The derivativeoptical constants are obtained by the Kramers-Kronig analysis of the spectra.The asymmetric broadening of the 6-polarized 0-0 exciton absorption band withtemperature is suggested. The frequency of the A=0 polariton for the 0 -0 absorp-lion band has been confirmed to be located at 25484 cm ' and at 25497 cm-'in the a- and the Z>-polarized spectra respectively. The K =0 polariton-excitonsplittings for the a- and #-polarization are respectively 77 am ' and 378 cm ',whose magnitudes are propor1.ional to the oscillator strength of the respective O-0absorption band. The Z>-polarized thermoreflectance spectrum at liquid heliumtemperature has also been measured and discussed briefly.
