Extreme Ultraviolet Emission and Ionization O-ions in a Linear Z-Pinch Helium Plasma

Helium plasma containing a small amount of 0-tons was produced by thelinear Z-pinch discharges in He-0. (0.5 mol '/) mixture, alnd the temporalchanges of emission intensities of the 011 to Vl-ion lines as well as of the Hell304 A resonance line were measured in the extreme ultraviolet 2100 to 550 A.At the same time the temporal change of the electron density 7V, was measuredwith a laser interferometer and the temporal change of the electron temperatureT. was determined from that of the Hell free-bound intensity distribution. Underthe measured V. and T. changes, the simultaneous rate equations for the ionizationof 0-ions have been calculated to give the temporal changes of the GIN toVl-ion line intensities. The result falls far from the observation, especially thecalculated intensities of GV- and Vl-ion lines are much smaller than the observedintensities. The ionization processes of impurity 0-ton in the He plasma arediscussed.
