• Oscillator strengths (/ values) for the transitions 4s4p 'P -4snd 'D with n=6to 12 and -3d5s 'D of Ca have been determined relative to those of the multiplet4s4p 'P -4p" P by means of the hook method. The resulting f values are 1235 '3 smaller for n=6, 7 and 8 than the c3.'ata of NBS compilation by Wiese et al.Those for other members are first reported in this paper. The spectral densityof the f values is found to have a minimum value around 3d5s 'D and 4s9d 'D.This behavior is quantitatively explained by means of a multichannel quantumdefect theory.
