The Role of Hydrogen Bonds in Antiferroelectricity of NH_4H_2PO_4

From a microscopic viewpoint on the role of two kinds of hydrogen bonds, antifer-roelectric phase transition in NH.H.P0. is re-examined. The role played by the pro-tons of NH. ions is explicitely taken into account, and it is shown that the hydrogenbonding effect of NH. ions with neighbouring oxygens may be renormalized into theeffective antiferroelectric interaction between protons which form the network ofhydrogen bonds connecting PG. groups.
