The $\alpha$-$\beta$-$\gamma$ transitions observed in CuI are interpreted in terms of anharmonic oscillation of Cu ion. Strong temperature dependence of the Debye-Waller factor and large anomalous entropy are correlated consistently within the proposed anharmonic oscillator model.
