Relation between Martensitic and Superconducting Phase Transitions in A-15 Type Compounds

Relation between martensitic and superconducting phase transitions in A-15 type compounds is discussed on the basis of a composite model of the Gor'kov and band Jahn-Teller models. It is shown that the coupling between both phase transitions always exists for band Jahn-Teller model in general, not restricted only to the Gor'kov model. Stability of the ground state against the BCS gap formation and martensitic lattice distortion is examined by assuming a simple form for the sharp peak in the density of states near the Fermi level and a criterion for the co-existence of both martensitic and superconducting phase transitions is derived in a model calculation.
