The peculiar temperature dependence of a remanent polarization in (NH.)250.-K.S0. mixed crystal which changes the sign at low temperature has been studied byextending the unified model in the ferroelectric crystals to the ferrielectric crystalsconsisting of two sublattices. The phase transition in this crystal system has beenanalyzed on the basis of an idea that two kinds of NHj ions, NH,7 (I) and NHj (II),with different dipole moments form two sublattices. In the mixed crystal, NFIj (II)with larger dipole moment than NH." (I) is replaced preferentially by K' ion with nodipole moment. We consider that the replacement of ions produces modifications inthe two kinds of potential in each sublattice, two kinds of ferroelectric intrasublatticeinteractions and weak antiferroelectric intersublattice interaction, leading to thepeculiar thermal property of the ferrielectric phase.[ammonium sulfate, ferrielectrics, phase transition, two sublattices, unified ]l modell
