The dissociation curves of sheep hemoglobin with oxygen observed by Roughton et al. are analyzed by the thermodynamical method, and it is pointed out that H_2O molecules have to give an important contribution to the changes of standard molar enthalpies and entropies. A reasonable statistical-mechanical expression for equilibrium constants is also derived, and the changes of internal energies and entropies for one hemoglobin molecule are estimated. In addition, the asymmetry and the dielectric moment of hemoglobin as well as the changes due to the association with oxygen are estimated from the experimental data on diffusion, viscosity and dielectric dispersion.
