On the stereoisomers of bilitriene with no tonic structure in their m-systems, theirwavelengths and oscillator strengths of absorption are calculatecl by the ZDO approxi-mation of the LCAO-ASMO-SCF-Cl theory of m-electrons. The interaction of the to-systems with a point-dipole is also investigated using the stationary perturbation theoryfor degenerate states. It is thus shown that a stereoisomer of bilitriene with no tonic structure 111 its n-system can explain the observed absorption spectrvtm of P., and that an interactionbetween such stereoisomer and a point-dipole is further necessary to reproduce theobserved spectrum of P... The photoisomerization of a terminal pyrrole ring is alsoconcluded to be probable for the origin of P.-P.. conversion.
