Modeling of Second-Harmonic Generation from Intracavity Surface-Emitting Lasers with Nonlinear Crystal

We present the optimum design of intracavity surface-emitting lasers with a nonlinear crystal for highly efficient second-harmonic generation. To realize a single-mode operation with high output power necessary for efficient frequency conversion, we introduce an external concave mirror structure in our laser design. The modeling result shows that the optimum inside mirror reflectivity of an intracavity structure is 70% on a 100-μm thick n-type GaAs substrate. We expect blue emission of more than 10 mW with a reduced substrate absorption and an optimized inside mirror reflectivity.
