• Four stereoisomers of β-methyllanthionine were synthesized by coupling of <I>N</I>-enzyloxycarbonyl-3-methyl-D-cysteine with β-chloroalanine. <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR analysis and retention time in amino acid analysis were studied on these compounds.
