A cyclic sulfide moiety corresponding to ring C in peptide antibiotic nisin was successfully synthesized from a disulfide compound prepared from a heptapeptide involving L-cysteine and <I>threo</I>-3-methyl-D-cysteine through desulfurization reaction with hexaethylphosphorus triamide.
