Absorption of cefotetan (CTT: Yamatetan) by maxillary sinus mucosa.

After administering 2 g of CTT intravenously, we studied how the drug was absorbed by the maxillary sinus mucosa and correlated the drug's concentration with the type of tissue.1) The serum levels 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 minutes after injection averaged 191.3±73.7 μg/ml, 149.0±7.9 μg/ml, 110.9±44.7 μg/ml, 84.1±3 1.7 μg/ml and 71.8±19.9 μg/ml, respectively, almost the same as in healthy adults.2) The drug was well absorbed by the maxillary sinus mucosa and was long-acting. The relevant values were 91.9±43.0, 70.9±27.2, 39.6±10.6, 63.7±7.5 and 28.1±13.4 μg/g, respectively, in the frontal wall mucosa, and 43.9±18.0, 59.1, 42.4±10.7, 31.3±19.2 and 19.1 μg/g, respectively, in oral mucosa.3) More CTT was absorbed by the frontal wall mucosa than by the oral mucosa.4) There was no definite correlation between tissue types and absorption rates, but the rate of absorption was somewhat lower in growing tissues than in fibrotic tissues.5) CTT is considered to be a useful drug for chronic sinusitis.
