Clonal Multiplication of Panax japonicus by Tissue Culture

Callus induced from various organs of an in vitro plantlet (flower bud, stem, leaf, rhizome-like root and hairy root) gave embryogenesis on the Murashige-Skoog's (MS) medium containing 1 ppm 2,4-D at higher yield and in shorter incubation time than that of intact plant. When the mature embryos were cultured on the 1/2 MS medium supplemented with GA and BAP (each 1 ppm), shoot formation was induced. Subsequently the shoots were transferred to the 1/2 MS medium supplemented with 1 ppm GA and 10 ppm BAP to form multiple shoot complexes (11 shoots per culture). When the shoots were subcultured in the medium containing 2 ox A ppm IBA, rooting occurred to form plantlets. The transplantation of these plantlets to soil was attempted in a biotron.
