A pyirole derivative, 4(2 formyl-5-hydroxymethylpyrrol-1-yl)-butyric acid, was isolated from processed Aconitum roots, "KAKO-BUSHI-MATSU". Its content was higher in "KAKO-BUSHI-MATSU" than in dried Aconitum roots, and it was considered that the compound was produced by the heating procedure used for the preparation of the medicine. The compound increased the peripheral blood flow in mouse, and we propose a new processing mechanism involved in Maillard reaction on preparation of the crude drug, bushi.
