A Rapid Method for Genomic DNA Preparation from Dried Materials of Genus Panax for PCR Analysis

Genomic DNAs were prepared from dried roots of Panax ginseng and P. japonicus, and a freezedried leaf of P. quinquefolium by using a guanidine isothiocyanate (GTC) solution as an extraction buffer. The extracted DNAs were analyzed by the RAPD PCR method to show that genomic DNA was to be easily and efficiently extracted by this solvent. Genomic DNA from dried P. ginseng callus and that from a dried root of P. ginseng gave identical RAPD PCR patterns.
