In vivo antimalarial activity of aqueous extracts from Kenyan medicinal plants and their interactions with chloroquine

ケニアにおいて伝統的にマラリア治療に用いられている7科に属する8種の植物から15種類の水煮沸抽出液を調製し,これらの抗マラリア活性についてクロロキン低感受性のネズミマラリア原虫Plasmodium berghei NK65を感染させたICRマウスを用いて検討した。抽出液単独投与では,Ficus surの葉抽出液が,未治療感染対照群の血虫率に対し41%の有意な抑制効果を示した。4種の植物,Albizia gummifera, Caesalpinia volkensii, Ekebergia capensisそしてMaytenus acummata投与では,9〜32%の抑制が認められた。3種の植物Ajuga remota, Azadirachta indicaそしてClerodendrum myricoidesは活性を示さなかった。一方,クロロキンと抽出液の併用では,Ficus surの葉および樹皮の抽出液投与では,原虫増殖の有意な抑制は認められなかったが,クロロキン投与対照群の生存期間に対して2週間の延長が認められた。またAlbizia gummiferaの葉抽出液とクロロキンとの併用で有意な血虫率の減少が認められ,さらに2週間以上の生存期間の延長が認められた。これら2種の植物から調製した抽出液とクロロキンとの相互作用は相乗作用を示唆している。抗マラリア薬開発の材料としての可能性を探る意味で,ケニア原産植物のFicus surおよびAlbizia gummiferaの抗マラリア活性成分の更なる研究が望まれる。
