A Monte Carlo simulation is performed to study the secondary electron emission from tungsten and beryllium due to electron impacts. It shows considerable differences in the electron yield between the two materials, as well as in the energy distribution of secondary electrons : much larger electron yield and broadening of the distribution towards higher energy for tungsten. The Monte Carlo simulation is also combined with an electron transport model in a sheath subjected to the Lorentz force due to an oblique magnetic field and the acceleration due to the sheath electric field. During their transport in the sheath, some of the secondary electrons return to the surface within their first gyration, resulting in a considerably low effective yield. The electron yield is decreased more for tungsten than for beryllium, and high-energy population in the energy distribution of emitted electrons is substantially decreased there.
