Degradation of Xyloglucan by Wall-Bound Enzymes from Soybean Tissue II : Degradation of the Fragment Heptasaccharide from Xyloglucan and the Characteristic Action Pattern of the α-D-Xylosidase in the Enzyme System

Hydrolysis of the fragment heptasaccharide (glucose : xylose=4 : 3) from xyloglucan with an enzyme preparation from soybean cell wall produced a penta- and a trisaccharide. The results of fragmentation analysis of these oligosaccharides with Aspergillus oryzae β-D-glucosidase indicate the following structures for the penta- and trisaccharide. [numerical formula] The detection of these intermediate products suggested that degradation of the heptasaccharide took place by sequential splitting of the α-D-xylosidic and β-D-glucosidic linkages. A characteristic action pattern of the α-D-xylosidase in the enzyme preparation was found.
