Elastic and dielectric properties of ferroelectric LiTlC.H.O5=H)0 (LT'T) werestudied in the paraelectric phase. The Curie-Weiss type anomalies were observed inthe elastic stiffness constant at constant electric field, the free dielectric constant andthe clamped dielectric constant, while no definite anomaly was found in the elasticstiffness constant at constant electric displacement. The phase transition of LTT isproper ferroelectric, in contrast to the case of isomorphic LiNH.C.H.O,? H.0 (LAT)known as proper ferroelastic. The dielectric instability in LTT is consistently ex-plained by the low-lying soft TO mode reported previously.ferroelectric, ferroelastic, lithium thallium tartrate, soft mode
