Development of High Efficiency Gyrotron with Depressed Collector for ECH System

A 110 GHZ gyrotron with depressed collector was developed. By recovering a kinetic energy of a spent beam, the gyrotron efficiency was improved from 30% to 50% at the output power of 610 kW (50 msec). And that, a stable oscillation was demonstrated even when the pulse duration was extended, e.g., 350 kW, 5 sec at the efficiency of 48% . This result will give a prospect for an application of electron cyclotron heating to fusion devices as a main heating/current drive system.
