Dielectric Anomaly of Triglycine Sulfate in the Ferroelectric Phase : Single Crystals and Powders

Complex dielectric constarnts of the single crystal and the powder ( - 100 ?m) ofTGS have been measured from 4.2 K to 340 K betvveen 10 Hz and 100 kHz. At l kHz,peaks of the dielectric loss e"(7') associated with dielectric dispersions were observedat T,= 121 K in the single crystal and T,=44 K in the powder. The activation energiesof these dispersions are &=0.l5 eV for the single crystal and &=0.030 eV for thepowder. The strength of the dispersions diminished markedly by addition of L-cc-alanine to the crystal. The decreases in T. and U in the powder are attributed to adepolarization effect.
