X-Ray Diffuse Scattering in [Pt (en)_2][PtCl_2(en)_2](CIO_4)_4

The halogen-bridged transition metal complex [Pt(en).][PtCl.(en).?(CIO.). has aquasi-one dimensional structure with Pt ions forming chains along tlte #-axis. Thevalence of the Pt ions can have two possible values, II artd IV, and is disordered.Diffuse X-ray scattering was found for wavevectors around (0 2n -f l 0). The inten-sity distribution along the (0 1 0) was ve'ry narrow, while that for wavevectors perpendicular to (0 2n -F- 1 0) showed clearly the existence of a short range order between thevalence sequences of neighboring chains. A strong correlation has been found between the chain at the origin and one al. the second neighbor position along the c-axis.The results were analyzed in terms of irnterchain interactions.halogen bridged compounds, mixed valence, interchain interactions, solitons
