lNzIagnetoelastic properties of a single crysts'tl of' CeP laatve been itavestigated by t?aagnetostrictiou'tand therunal expansion uaaeastrreraaents. The longittrdinal atad transverse taaagtaetostriction withthe field along the [001] direction shoxv an abrtrpt decrease in length folloxving the appearanceof the ferronauagnetically order'ed planes with the [g Ce rtuornents, Nloreover, iso-field therrnalexpansiora along both directions slaow a large increase of the length at the tezaaperattnre wherethe ferrornagnetic-parataaagtaetic transition of the [8 Ce ttaotauents takes plaxce. Strch large lengthchanges can be trnderstood by the p-f taaixing effect xvhich has been trsed sttccessftrlly to explainthe taaagnetic phase diagraraa of CeP.
