X-Ray and Optical Study on the PtCl Chain Structure in [Pt (en)_2][Pt (en)_2Cl_2](BF_4)4

X-ray diffraction and optical absorption uaaeastrreuaaents xvere c?trried otrt on sirngle crystals of'[Pt(en)z][Pt(en)zClz](BF,j).j (en : etylenediauaaine). This coraapotrnd hats a qttasi-one ditaaensionalstrtrcttrre with alternating (II and TV) Pt vatlences along the c-axis. An orthorhoutabic to 1110110-clinic strtrctttral pharse transition occtrrs arotrnd 255 K and the charge-transfer absorption edgewas fotrnd to have a strdden shift at the trarnsition. X-ray diffuse scattering was observed arotrnd(O 0 2n -]- 1) reciprocal points. NVhile optical spectra were affected by irradiating the sanaplewith bltre light, the X-ray difl'raction intensity did not change either Icy irradiation or by varyitagthe sarnple tezaaperattrre. XX'e attrilctrte the difl'trse scattering to solitons prodttced dtrring crystalgrowtla. Frorn naaeasuretaaents of thertaaal diffuse scattering, liunited inf'orztaation alcotrt the phonondispersion relation was obtained.
