X-ray scattering experiraaents luave Tveen perforraaed on a quasi-one ditnensional systetaa,Nij .Pd.(chxra)zBr3. Strong difl'trse scattering xvas observed for x >0.7, and it was iutterpreted as dtme to spatial inhotnogeneity in the valence of naetal tons. This inlaomogeneity takesthe fornn of CDW in whicla the uauetal Tons xvitl'nita a chain have valences alternating between %2and f4. Correlations in the valence seqtmence could be deterunined parallel as well as perpendic-trlar to the chain directiott. Pair correlation ftruactions dedtmced frozn the rtaeastrreraaents show theexistence of strong correlatioza between tlae positioras of bridging Br iouas and those of Br countertons. It is concltmded that the valence of'rnetal Tons for x< 0.7 is -4-3. These restnlts are consistentxvith previous data on optical and tnagnetic ztueastrrerner?ts.
