Evidence for Magnetic Ordering in the Heavy-Electron Compound CeCu_2In

Specific-heat and Cu NMR measurements have been made on the recentlydiscovered heavy-electron compound CeCu.In. The low-temperature specific heat hasan enormous electronic contribution with C., / T : 1.2 J / mole? K' below 1.2 K, andshows a broad maximum at around 2.2 K. Below 2.3 K, Cu NMR linewidth AHshows appreciable additional broadening, and the nuclear transverse relaxation alsobecomes appreciably slower. These results indicate that CeCu.ln undergoes an antiferromagnetic phase transition at T.z 2.3 K. The possibility of ordering of quite a smallmoment is suggested from the observations of the gigantic value of C.. / T below T.,the small magnetic entropy at T., and the steady increase of C.. / 7'through T. withdecreasing temperature.
