Magnetic Properties of the Heavy-Electron Compound YbP

High-field magnetization for the external field of up to 530 k0e at 4.2 K as well astemperature dependence of low-field susceptibility between 2 and 290 K have beenmeasured on the magnetically ordered heavy-electron compound YbP. Except for thesusceptibility at the lowest temperatures, the experimental data are found to be de-scribed quite well by the analyses in terms of both the sinagle-site effects of thecrystalline-electric-field (CEF) and the Kondo coupling of the T. doublet ground stateof Yb" Jon, and the interatomic exchange interaction with an antiferromagneticcoupling between the F. states. It is also shown that the te?nperature-independentsusceptibility at the lowest temperatures is considered as a manifestation of the onsetof magnetic correlations from well above the ordering temperature.
