SH^3 Term in the Submillimeter Electron Spin Resonance of Cobalt Tutton Salt

Submillimeter ESR in cobalt ammonium Tutton salt (N11.).Co(SQ.).-6H.0was studied at liquid nitrogen temperature using pulsed high magnetic fields andtwo submillimeter waves, 337 pm of HCN laser and 119 pm of H.0 laser. Thefrequency dependence of the g value was o bserved. For example, g, at 119 pm wasabout 2 '/, smaller than that at 337 pm. The observed frequency dependence can beexplained by introducing a new SR' term in the effective spin Hamiltonian. Anextensive theoretical consideration based on the Abragam?=Pryce theory showsthat the observed shift can satisfactorily be explained quantitatively. This isthe first experimental observation of SH' term of the iron group tons in toniccrystals.
