Charge Carriers in Liquid He II Produced by Spark Discharge

A new method of producing various charge carriers and neutral impurities in liquid He II was developed by making a spark discharge plasma just above the liquid surface. This method can produce + or - charge carriers of ∼10^<11>/cc and the optical and transport properties of these change carriers were investigated. It was found that the plasma in the liquid shows strong recombaination effect by the irradiation of light having an energy larger than W_0, where W_0(0.6eV) is the dissociation energy of an electron from the electron bubble.
