Experimental Observation of the Antiferro-Fan Transition in NiBr_2

The full magnetization curve of NiBr. has been measured in a pulsed highmagnetic field at T= 1.3 K. This material exhibits a helical ordering below 22.8 Kin zero field. When the external field is applied in the c-plane at low temperatures,a transition from the helical to antiferromagnetic phase takes place at 27 k0e.A magnetization change is observed at 321 k0e in an increasing field. This valueis in good agreement with the predicted one (325 k0e) by Yoshiyama et at. forthe transition field from the antiferromagnetic to fan phase. The transition fromthe fan to saturated paramagnetic phase occurs at 329 k0e, which is close to thetheoretical value of 331 k0e.
