Electronic Structure of CeRh_3B_2:A Large f-f Direct Mixing System

The standard self-consistent APW band calcvalations for LaRh,B. and CeRh.B.,which crystallize in the hexagonal CeCo,Bz type structure, laave been done using thelocal density approximation. Among the 4f states, the magnetic quantum numberl.= 0 state has the large mixing with the conduction bands and thus is the ground stateof the crystal field. For CeRh,B., the band calculatioua, in which the orbitaldegeneracy of 4f states is lifted by introducing the l. dependent pseudo-potential, isalso done for the ferromagnetic alignment of the 4f state with l.=0. Results showthat, due to the large (J'o), this 4f state has strong dispersion along the c-directioncreating 4f holes on the T-M-K plane in the Brillouin zone. This 4f hole formation isthe origin of the anomalous magnetic properties and various anomalous propertiesare explained consistently on this model.
