A recent topic in multilayer magnetism is the peculiar magnetoresistance (MR) effect. Experimental results on the MR properties of Co/Au, Fe/Cr and Cu/Co/Cu/Ni (Fe) multilayers are surveyed. A significant increase of resistance generally occurs in a situation where the directions of magnetization are not parallel. Observed results indicate the existence of spin-dependent electron scattering mechanism, which is not yet theoretically well understood.
