• New cyclitols, validatol and deoxyvalidatol, derived by hydrogenolysis of antibiotic validamycin A, were synthesized as the racemates from readily available tri-<I>O</I>-acetyl-(1,3/2,4,6)-4-bromo-6-bromomethyl-1,2,3-cyclohexanetriol.
