• Pseudo-β-DL-fructopyranose was synthesized from DL-1,2-di-<I>O</I>-acetyl-(1,3/2)-3-bromomethyl-5-cyclohexene-1,2-diol by a six steps reaction: Dehydrobromination, epoxidation, acetolysis, reduction, and deacetylation, in overall yield of 4.8%. Pseudo-β-DL-fructopyranose was found to be nearly as sweet as D-fructose which is the most sweet sugar known in naturally occurring carbohydrates.
