The title compound, a promising antiviral carbocyclic nucleoside analogue, was synthesized enantiospecifically. The present synthesis involves a coupling reaction of 5-amino-4,6-dichloropyrimidine and (1<I>R</I>,2<I>R</I>,3<I>R</I>,4<I>R</I>)-2,3-dihydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)cyclopentanamine which was in turn prepared from D-xylose.
