Superparamagnetic Behavior of Amorphous Fe-60at%Zr Alloy

The magnetic moment per Fe atom of the Fe-Zr amorphous alloys containing 28.6, 33.5, 38.1, 45, 47 and 60at%Zr decreases monotonically with increasing Zr concentration and vanishes around 60at%Zr. The thermomagnetization curves of the 60at%Zr alloy indicate the characteristic feature. The heating curve shows a maximum at T_b(〜12 K) and coincides with the cooling curve at T_s(〜18 K). The temperature dependence of ac-susceptibility has a maximum at T_s. The magnetization curves plotted as a function of H/T in the temperature region from T_b to T_s lie on a single curve derived from the Langevin function, suggesting the occurrence of superparamagnetism. The appearance of magnetic clusters may result from the statistical concentration fluctuation. It is considered that T_s is the magnetic ordering temperature inside the clusters and T_b is the blocking temperature.
