The Faraday effect in Gd.Fe.0.., Y3Fe.0., Y3Ga.Fe5-,0.. (x=0.272)and Y.-.Bi,Fe.0.. (,v=0.5) has been measured at a wavelength of 632.8 nm inmagnetic fields up to 45 k0e in a temperature range between 100 :and 700 Kthrough the Curie temperature. 'The Faraday rotation shows a m'emarkabledecrease proportional to the applied field after the magnetization is saturated. The proportionality coefficient depends on temperature in the same m.anner as alinear combination of squares of sublattice magnetizations. An attempt is madeto elucidate the field dependence of the Faraday effect on the basis of arm electronictransition in Fe tons.
