Ti-Nb-Si Amorphous Alloys for Application to Diaphragm in Watches

Ti_<85-x>Nb_xSi_<15> amorphous ribbons have been prepared by melt-quenching using a levitation furnace and their basic characteristics necessary for application to a diaphragm in watches have been investigated. The specific Young's modulus increased with increasing the Nb content and was larger than the values of Fe-base amorphous alloys. These alloys also had much higher strengths and extremely high corrosion resistance than those of SUS 304 stainless steel and crystalline pure Ti which are known as diaphragm materials for watches.
