Electrical Resistance and Magnetoresistance in Quasi-Crystalline and Amorphous Al-Mn Alloys

• Temperature and magnetic field dependences of the electrical resistance R(T, H) ofa quasi-crystalline (QC) AN-22.5 at%Mn and its counterpart amorphous (AM) alloyshave been studied. Little difference in RAT, H) between these two phases is observedaccompanying the following common characteristics. The resistance in the absence ofmagnetic field has a - log 7'dependence which holds down to near the spin-glass freez-ing temperature T, (8.5 K for QC, 7.4K and IOK for AM: Al-22.4 and -24.3at%Mn, respectively). Below T, R(T) deviates downward from the -log Icurve. Anegative magnetoresistance is observed at low temperatures below IOK andmonotonically enhanced on cooling.
