Delayed Fracture of Amorphous Alloys in Atmosphere

Delayed failure was observed in iron based amorphous alloys with low corrosion resistance in air. The presence of phosphorus in alloys enhanced its susceptibility. This failure took place probably by hydrogen embrittlement under coexistence of a moisture and a tensile stress. The addition of chromium to the alloys was effective in prevention of delayed failure in atmosphere.
