Superconductors Prepared by Mechanical Alloying of Immiscible Elements

This paper reviews our recent results of microstructure and superconducting properties of materials prepared by the process of mechanical alloying(MA) of elemental powders, followed by cold- or hot-pressing and optimum annealing. It has been demonstrated that this process is useful for the formation of metallic and oxide materials with homogeneously mixed structures and good superconducting properties which cannot be prepared by conventional solidification and rapid solidification techniques. In particular, the application of MA into immiscible systems consisting of semiconducting and superconducting elements has been found to be effective because of the appearance of hybrid-type properties which cannot be expected for the corresponding constituent elements.
