Field-Heating Effect-Anomalous Thermomagnetization Curves Observed in Hexagonal LuFe_2O_4

It has been found in hexagonal LuFe.0. that the magnetization measured afterheating to a temperature in a constant magnetic'field is much larger than thatmeasured by the application of the same field after heating to the same temperature inzero field. This is called the 'field heating effect' in contrast to the so-called field cool-ing effect. This phenomenon suggests the existence of a phase transition. Althoughthe direct evidence of the phase transition has not been obtained yet, it may probablybe related to the ordering of Fe" and Fe" ions.
