Relationship of the Electrophysiological Property of Tobacco Cultured Cells to Their Regeneration Ability

The electrophysiological properties of the high-density fraction of tobacco cultured cells (cell clusters) which formed leaf primordia in high yield in Linsmaier-Skoog's medium containing kinetin were compared with those of low-density cell fractions in which leaf primordia hardly differentiated. Cells of the former fraction had a higher membrane potential and an electrogenic mechanism which responded to sugars and amino acids.
