• The chemical constituents of Chinese crude drug "Pei-wujiapi" (北五加皮) were studied. Four out of six steroidal substances which were obtained by hydrolysis of the glycoside fraction with dilute acid were identified as Δ^5-pregnene-3β, 20α-diol, Δ^5-pregnene-3β, 17α, 20α-triol, Δ^5-pregnene-3β, 16α, 20α-triol, and periplogenin. Beside these substances, β-sitosterol, β-sitosterol-β-D-glucoside and 4-methoxysalicylaldehyde were isolated from the benzene soluble fraction.
