Eleven triterpenoid saponins were isolated from the leaves of a Chinese folk medicine, Acanthopanax senticosus (RUPR. et MAXIM) HARMS. Of these compounds, three were identified as known saponins. The structures of eight new saponins named ciwujianosides B (1), C_1,(2), C_2 (3), C_3,(4), C_4 (5), D_1,(6), D_2 (7), and E (8) were elucidated to be as follows : (1), 3-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-arabinopyranosyl-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid 28-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-glucopyranosyl ester; (2), 3-O-α-arabinopyranosyl-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid 28-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-glucopyranosyl ester; (3), 3-O-α-rhamnopyanosyl-(1→2)-α-arabinopyranosyl-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid 28-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-6-O-acetyl-β-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-glucopyranosyl ester; (4), 3-β-arabinopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-glucopyranosyl(1→6)-β-glucopyranosyl ester; (5), 3-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-arabinopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-6-O-acetyl-β-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-glucopyranosyl ester; (6), 3-O-α-arabinopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-6-O-acetyl-β-glucopyranosyl(1→6)-β-glucopyranosyl ester; (7), 3-O-α-arabinopyranosyl-30-norolean-12,20(29)-dien-28-oic acid 28-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→4)-6-O-acetyl-β-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-β-glucopyranosyl ester; (8), 3-O-α-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-arabinopyranosyl-30-norolean-12,20-(29)-dien-28-oic acid.
