• Microbiological asymmetric reduction of 4-carbomethoxy-3,8-dioxo-9-methyl-Δ^<4(10)>-octalin (lab) with various yeasts was carried out. With properly selected microorganisms, the desird (+)-4-carbomethoxy-(8S)-hydroxy-3-oxo-(9S)-methyl-Δ^<4(10)>-octalin (2a) was obtained with high optical purity (>99% ee).
